Essential 4 Series: Teasers

I'm actually putting this up for me and not you. This is to remind me to get these posts done. I'm hoping that you can help me by keeping in my butt and reminding me of these teasers so that I can get on the ball.

Essential 4 Series: Breathing Methods - Tai Chi

When people ask me how I started on this path to health, I reply by saying, "Yoga saved my life" and then I talk about how I finally connected with Yoga. While Yoga did save my life, it's not the first thing that got me on the path to wellness. I learned how to properly breathe way before I met up with Yoga.

The year was 1995...it was early in the year. It wasn't quite Spring yet but Winter was definitely over. To put it plainly, I was a serious pothead then....

Essential 4 Series: Water

Recently, I noticed that I was getting some BO (Body Odor) at the same time everyday. At first, I chalked it up to "that time of the month," however this still occurred way after my period was over. The BO would come towards the end of the day and without warning. The only thing I changed was the fact that I stopped eating chicken since November 2008.

I put my thinking cap on and thought about it for a long time. I realized that since I stopped eating chicken, I started eating more and more fish - salmon to be exact. Whenever I would eat a lot of salmon, the BO would arise. I started doing research...I understood that an excess intake of dietary protein leads to body odor. WoW!

I didn't decrease my protein intake. I chose to eat different kinds of protein - tuna, sardines, lentils - I needed to diversify. This worked for a week and then the BO came back, right on time, around 4pm.

Now it seems like I fixed my issue. By decreasing protein? Nope. LOL By drinking more water...

These aren't going to be the actual posts. I'm going to put these through my editor and she'll probably make it sound (and read) a whole lot better. I'm definitely going to draft the Tai Chi post tonight and send it off to my editor. The Water Series will come right after the Tai Chi post so be on the lookout for it. I plan to jam pack it with tons of information that may astound and amaze you! :D

I'm also going to send my editor my Domestic Violence post soon too. I think that is too important to hold back any longer.

Sometimes life gets in the way of getting things done. Sometimes you are the barrier between getting things done and living your life. I have been on both sides of this fence. No more excuses. Time to do it. Win Now? Why Wait!

Greetings everyone!

I hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl. I, myself, did not get to see it. I taught my first "official" class at Integral Yoga and it was great. I would like to thank all of those who attended my class and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

My next class is on Feb. 15th. That is on a Sunday, at Integral Yoga Institute. The cost for the class is $12 and it's a Hatha I Beginner's class. If you stop by, mention that you saw this on my blog. I'd really appreciate it.

Another thing I have done is update one of my old blogs. My Essential 4 Series: Bad Posture can be a Headache is one of my most popular blogs. I have updated it with some new information that you may find useful. Click on the link to access that post.

I plan on doing this with other previous posts with time. I'm still working on putting some other posts up that are way past due. I'm not going to speak on them now. I'm just going to put them out there and get it done.

As I get my schedule together, you will hear from me and then you may not. Regardless of my state of affairs, I trust that I can always count on you to...

Change is Here!

I was going to speak more about depression but I think I covered that enough. School officially starts next week and I'm ready to move into the next phase of health. Now that we have the mental aspect of health covered (and believe me, it will be updated as time goes on), I want to transition into they physical aspects of health. I'm still not going to talk about food (yet!) but I will talk about issues that are just as important, if not more so to most people.

I plan on writing to you about the 4 Essentials to achieving and maintaining health that are the most often neglected. Most "connoisseurs of health" talk about these things much later in their processes but I want to talk about them first and get them out of the way so that you have an even firmer foundation for health.

These 4 Essentials are: Sleep, Posture, Water, and Breath. I don't care how much you exercise, how well you eat, how many herbal teas you make or how often you detox. It's not going to make a lick of difference if these 4 Essentials are not taken care of.

I want you to know that even though weight loss is always on my mind, it's in the back of my mind. There are ladies and gentlemen out there that may need to gain weight in order to be healthy. As a matter of fact, it's good for you to understand that just because a person is deemed "skinny" or has a "great body", doesn't mean that they are at optimal health. Looking good, feeling good and being well (a state of wellness, which is true health) are different concepts, depending on the individual. While sleeping well may not be a contributing factor in weight loss, it is a major factor in making sure that your body functions as well as your mind are at rest and capable of performing the necessary functions to maintain health and balance while you are awake. Even though Water has a slew of health benefits - internally and externally, including weight loss, most would probably be surprised to know that breathing properly can reach the same goals (internal and external health benefits as well as weight loss) in a different way. Posture is often talked about briefly in regards to general health but for the most part, it's only focused on when you have serious issues with your back, neck, shoulders, or spine. Proper posture deals with so much more than that and I feel that it is of the utmost importance when you have overweight/obese individuals lose weight.

I have decided that I would like to take a couple of days to a week on each subject. I will also transition into other topics so that you have a complete understanding of what you must do for yourself to achieve and maintain health. My goal is to have each person that reads these posts understand concepts that the mainstream really doesn't talk about so that you can maintain health in your own way. Sure, we can eat food to lose weight and we can exercise to firm muscles and build up our cardiovascular system. However, without these 4 essentials, it will all be in vain because you can still be prone to disease as well as dis-ease.

All I ask of you at this moment is patience. A lot of things are going to happen at once so I won't be able to put up the blogs as often as I would like (actually it's not as often as I would like it to be right now LOL). If I am not able to put up a blog, please look over to the "Health Related Links" for more information on any of these subjects.

We are all works in progress. So let's get to working on this progress! ;)
In the meantime...

stay strong, stay healthy, and fight dis-ease!
